Sales enablement jobs · hire a sales enablement lead or manager, fractional or permanent

Sales enablement jobs are the roles that make sellers ready to sell: onboarding new reps, writing the playbook, keeping sales content current, running training and looking after the tools sellers use. The work is judged by how fast new sellers ramp and how often deals are won. To hire a sales enablement lead, decide first whether you need the playbook built or an existing one run.

We place sales enablement people on fractional, interim, part-time, temporary and permanent terms, from a first sales enablement manager to a head of sales enablement, and we can put a senior GTM lead on the work directly. On every brief we send a shortlist of 3–5, each with pay or day rate, availability and IR35 position set out, after five-stage vetting. Looking for work? Live sales roles are on the board below.

Live sales and sales development roles

Fractional Quest is a fractional recruitment agency: send a sales enablement lead brief and we come back with a shortlist of three to five vetted candidates.

01/ the role

Sales enablement jobs: what the seat owns

A sales enablement lead owns the gap between a seller being hired and a seller closing deals. The usual scope: the onboarding programme for new reps; the sales playbook (who to call, what to say, how to qualify, how to handle the common objections); the content sellers send and show, from one-pagers to comparison sheets; ongoing training and call coaching; and the sales tools, so reps actually use what the company pays for. Enablement does not carry a quota. It answers for how well the people who do carry one are prepared.

Junior and senior seats

Most sales enablement jobs are not leadership roles, and we say so plainly. A sales enablement manager is usually an individual contributor, or manages one or two people, and reports to the head of sales. A head of sales enablement runs a small team and a budget and reports to a sales director, a CRO or the revenue operations lead. On the go-to-market ladder, a first enablement hire sits beside a GTM specialist or a go-to-market manager; a head of sales enablement sits nearer a GTM lead.

Who gets enabled

The first people through an enablement programme are usually the most junior: business development representatives and SDRs, who need a script, a target list and a way to book meetings from their first week. If you are adding outbound capacity part of the week, a fractional BDR or a fractional SDR still needs the same playbook. Account executives come next, and so does the leader over them: if that seat is empty, hire a fractional head of sales. Every seat in that team is on our GTM jobs hub.

02/ scope

Hire a sales enablement lead

1. Name the symptom

Start with what is going wrong. New reps take too long to book their first meeting or close their first deal; every seller pitches the product differently; nobody can find the latest deck; the company bought sales tools that sit unused; or the founder is about to hire the first sellers and nothing is written down. Each points to a different part of the job, so write the symptom into the brief before the title.

2. Pitch the level

If the playbook exists and needs running, a sales enablement manager is the right hire. If there is no playbook, or several teams need one, you need someone senior enough to write it and get the sales leader to adopt it: a head of sales enablement, or a fractional enablement lead for part of the week. If the real gap is the CRM data and the pipeline rules, hire a fractional RevOps lead instead. If it is the product story itself, the messaging belongs with a go-to-market manager or product marketing, and enablement turns it into training.

Sales enablement manager

A sales enablement manager runs the programme day to day: onboards each new rep, keeps the content library current, runs the weekly training slot, listens to recorded calls and feeds what they hear back to sales and marketing. Look for someone who has sold, or has trained sellers, and who can show you an onboarding plan they built. Formal sales training is one signal among several: the Institute of Sales Professionals, the membership body for sales, offers sales qualifications and apprenticeships and endorses sales academies and training providers.

3. Test the work

Give candidates your current pitch deck and one recorded sales call, and ask what they would teach a new rep in the first week. Ask how they would measure whether training worked. The honest answers are ramp time (how long until a new seller is productive) and win rate (the share of qualified deals won), tracked before and after. Take references from a sales leader whose team they trained.

05/ what is sales enablement

What is sales enablement? the meaning, and how it is measured

Sales enablement is the work of giving sellers what they need to win: onboarding, playbooks, content, training and tooling, measured by ramp time and win rate. It sits between marketing, which shapes the message, and sales, which delivers it, and makes sure the message reaches the call.

Onboarding is where most enablement starts. Acas describes an induction as the process of welcoming someone to an organisation or role, sometimes called onboarding; there is no legal requirement to have one, and it is not the same as a probation period. The CIPD notes that a new starter’s first impressions can shape how they settle into the team, and that effective induction may also help an employer’s staff turnover. A sales onboarding programme adds the product, the buyer, the playbook and the first calls.

Ramp time is the measure most teams watch. The Bridge Group puts average SDR ramp time at 3.0 months, the lowest since 2010, from a 2025 survey of 351 B2B companies, most of them in North America. Your own number matters more than the benchmark: record how long each new seller takes to reach their first meeting and first deal, and check whether enablement moves it. Win rate is the second measure; we quote no market figure for it, because it varies too much by product and deal size to compare.

Content and training carry rules too. The CAP Code is the rule book for non-broadcast ads, sales promotions and direct marketing communications, and its misleading-advertising section requires evidence to prove claims, so a comparison sheet should be able to back every line. Reps who call or email prospects need the ICO’s business-to-business marketing rules: PECR covers marketing calls and messages to businesses, the email rule does not apply to companies but does apply to sole traders and some partnerships, and UK GDPR applies to a named contact’s personal data. For the strategy the playbook serves, see go-to-market strategy or our go-to-market strategy guide at gtm.quest.

06/ head of sales enablement

Head of sales enablement and fractional sales enablement

A head of sales enablement is the permanent, senior version of the seat. The role usually arrives once there are several sales teams (outbound, account executives, account management) and a sales leader above them. The head of sales enablement sets the onboarding standard for all of them, owns the playbook, manages one or more enablement managers, and agrees with the RevOps lead which tools the team keeps.

Fractional sales enablement

Fractional sales enablement is an experienced enablement lead for part of the week. It suits one moment in particular: before the first sales hires. A founder who has sold the product can explain it; a new rep cannot yet. A fractional enablement lead writes down what the founder does (the ideal customer, the qualifying questions, the demo, the answers to the common objections), turns it into an onboarding plan, and is ready when the first BDRs and account executives start.

It often runs alongside a founding GTM lead or a fractional GTM leader, who owns the motion while the enablement lead makes it teachable. Once the team is big enough to need it every day, the seat becomes a permanent sales enablement manager or head of sales enablement. We recruit both. For the leader above the seat, see head of GTM jobs.

07/ ir35

IR35 and sales enablement contractors employed part-time or through a company

A fractional enablement lead is either employed on a part-time contract or works through their own limited company. Where they work through their own company, the off-payroll working rules (IR35) may apply, and they apply contract by contract.

A medium or large client makes the status determination. For a small client outside the public sector, the worker’s own company decides; HMRC sets out the size tests in its guidance for clients. Status turns on how the engagement runs in practice. Our IR35 guide sets out the tests.

08/ questions

Sales enablement jobs FAQ

The questions people ask before bringing in a sales enablement lead.

Roles that prepare sellers to sell: onboarding new reps, writing and running the sales playbook, keeping sales content current, training and coaching, and looking after the sales tools. They range from a sales enablement manager, often an individual contributor, to a head of sales enablement who runs a team.

The work of giving sellers what they need to win: onboarding, playbooks, content, training and tooling. It is measured by ramp time (how long a new seller takes to become productive) and win rate (the share of qualified deals won).

Name the symptom first (slow ramp, inconsistent pitches, lost content, unused tools, or first sellers about to start), then decide whether the playbook needs building or running. Test candidates on your own pitch deck and a recorded call, and ask how they would measure the result. If the gap is CRM data, hire a fractional RevOps lead instead.

A salary for a permanent sales enablement manager or head of sales enablement, or the day rate times the days worked for a fractional lead. No published source we trust covers sales enablement pay, so we do not quote one. We set out each candidate’s pay or day rate on the shortlist.

Runs the enablement programme day to day: onboards each new rep, keeps the content library current, runs regular training, reviews recorded calls and feeds what they hear back to sales and marketing. It is usually an individual contributor role reporting to the head of sales.

Sets the onboarding standard and owns the playbook across several sales teams, manages the enablement managers, and agrees the sales tool stack with RevOps. The role usually reports to a sales director or CRO.

An experienced enablement lead for part of the week. It fits best before the first sales hires: the lead writes down how the founder sells, turns it into a playbook and an onboarding plan, and has both ready when the first BDRs start. See fractional BDR jobs for the people it prepares.

No. Product marketing decides the positioning and the message; sales enablement turns it into training, playbooks and content the sellers use on calls. At a small company one person may do both. For the go-to-market side, see go-to-market manager jobs.

It depends on how the engagement runs in practice, not on its label. A medium or large client makes the determination; for a small client outside the public sector, the worker’s own company decides (HMRC). We set out each candidate’s IR35 position on the shortlist and do not promise an outcome.
