The Role

We are hiring a Fractional Controller to own and elevate financial execution across a portfolio of client businesses. This is a remote role for a technically strong accounting professional who thrives in a client-facing environment and enjoys partnering closely with Fractional CFOs, internal bookkeepers, and financial analysts.

You will serve as the bridge between day-to-day accounting and higher-level financial strategy—ensuring the numbers are right, timely, and decision-ready.

Key Responsibilities

Own and manage month-end close across assigned clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency

Review and finalize GAAP-compliant financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)

Maintain strong general ledger integrity, reconciliations, and supporting schedules

Partner with internal bookkeepers and analysts to review work, resolve issues, and improve quality

Support cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis in collaboration with the Fractional CFO

Coordinate with external CPAs, tax advisors, and auditors as needed

Identify and implement process improvements to standardize workflows and reduce rework

Communicate financial insights clearly to business owners and leadership teams

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

Month-end close is running on time with minimal rework across assigned clients

Financial statements are clean, reliable, and trusted by CFOs and clients

Clear ownership established between bookkeepers, analysts, and the Controller role

Improved visibility into cash flow and key drivers for client businesses

Strong working rhythm established with Fractional CFOs and internal team

Qualifications

Strong experience in financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end close

Proven capability in forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management

Solid understanding of GAAP accounting principles and tax considerations

Proficiency with modern accounting systems (QuickBooks Online or similar)

Ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable insights

Comfortable working across multiple clients and priorities in a remote environment

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

CPA or CMA preferred, not required

Experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses strongly preferred
