Fractional Controller
About This Role
The Controller will perform advanced and comprehensive accounting functions for multiple businesses and clients across Northern IL. This includes financial statement preparation, client consultation, tax planning and tax return preparation for businesses and individuals. Your responsibilities will include client relationships and billing, and for supervising accounting production staff. This position will work closely with clients in a “consultative” capacity, and this role is ideal for a seasoned finance professional looking to leverage their expertise across multiple clients or projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (could include any of the following, and other duties may be assigned.)
Manage all aspects of financial reporting, including the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Provide insights and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
Ensure GAAP-compliant financials.
Strengthen internal controls, financial systems, and reporting processes.
Delegates, review and approves work, both to improve the bandwidth of work being completed, but also to increase staff development and firm profitability.
Prepares individual and corporate tax returns based on information provided by the client.
Develop and oversee budgeting processes and provide accurate forecasts to guide business decisions.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards, implementing best practices in financial management.
Monitor cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts to maintain the financial health of the organization.
Collaborate with finance staff, providing guidance and mentoring to enhance team capabilities.
Contribute to strategic planning and support management in decision-making through financial insights and analysis.
Conduct financial analysis to support various projects and initiatives as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA or CMA a plus).
10+ years of relevant experience and/or training. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory standards.
Proven experience working with small to mid-sized companies or start-ups.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple clients/projects efficiently.
Demonstrated success in improving financial systems, processes, and reporting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Candidates must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
