Fractional SDR salary · pro-rata, our arithmetic

What a fractional SDR earns, pro-rata of the permanent salary

No independent UK source publishes a fractional SDR day rate.

The figures here are the permanent SDR salary from Sales Recruit UK and the ONS spread across working days.

That is our arithmetic, a pro-rata floor for comparison, not a market rate.

Sales Recruit UK puts a SaaS SDR at £33,000 base across seven UK regions.

Over 220 working days that is about £150 a day, and one day a week for 46 weeks comes to about £6,900 (our arithmetic).

A fractional SDR salary is whatever the quote you accept says; when you hire a fractional SDR through us, we send a shortlist of 3–5, each with day rate, availability and IR35 position set out.

SDR roles on the board

Fractional recruiting starts with the brief, not the CV pile. Send a Fractional SDR brief and we come back with a shortlist of three to five candidates, each through five-stage vetting.

01/ the role

What a fractional SDR is, and why there is no published rate

A fractional SDR is a sales development representative who works part of the week for your business.

They research accounts, contact buyers and book first meetings for the people who close.

The arrangement is usually a day rate or a monthly retainer for set days.

We have looked for an independent survey of fractional SDR pay and found none.

What exists online is outsourced-SDR firms’ own price lists, which are a vendor’s offer, not a market measure.

So we publish no fractional SDR rate.

What we can show is the permanent salary for the seat, divided into days.

That gives you a floor to compare quotes against.

It is our arithmetic on published salaries, and we label it that way on every figure.

For the full permanent benchmarks, by region and level, see SDR salary.

For full-time cover over a fixed period, see interim SDR salary.

02/ scope

What to check in a fractional quote

1. The day rate, the days and the notice

Ask each candidate for three things in writing: the day rate, the days a week, and the notice either side can give.

Compare the day rate with the pro-rata floor in the table below.

Then ask what the days include: research time, list building, tools, reporting.

2. IR35 and employment status

Status turns on how the engagement runs, not on the contract title.

Under the off-payroll working rules (IR35), a medium or large client makes the status determination; HMRC’s guidance for clients sets out who counts as medium or large.

HMRC’s CEST tool gives its view on one engagement.

Employment law has its own employment status tests, separate from tax.

3. VAT, pension and what a day rate leaves out

If the person invoices through a business that is registered for VAT, VAT is added to the day rate.

A day rate carries no employer pension, holiday pay or sick pay; an employee is owed a workplace pension contribution on top of salary.

A part-week employee is a different arrangement again, with part-time workers’ rights.

What we do on a fractional SDR brief

We recruit fractional, interim, part-time, temporary and permanent hires, and non-executive directors.

We send a shortlist of 3–5, each with day rate, availability and IR35 position set out, and every candidate goes through our five-stage vetting first.

To start, hire a fractional SDR.

03/ the week

How a week divides.

Part of a week is the point of the model: the days you buy are yours, the rest of the week goes to other clients. Move the days a week and the week redraws.

Four taps. The answer names the route for the seat and the page that covers it.

Does the seat sit on the board for years?
Is the need now, or can it wait for a search?

A fractional SDR holds the seat on agreed days for as long as the seat is needed, and works for other clients on the rest.

Fractional SDR salary pro-rata of the permanent base, our arithmetic

Permanent SDR pay as published, spread across working days: our arithmetic, not a market rate. Day equivalent = base ÷ 220 working days. A year at 1, 2 or 3 days a week = the day equivalent × the days × 46 weeks. Worked from the unrounded day figure and rounded to the nearest £10. Sales Recruit UK’s figures are technology and SaaS only; the ONS group is broader than the SDR title. Sales Recruit UK is a recruiter.

07/ economics

A day rate is not a salary: what the floor leaves out

The pro-rata figure is a floor, not a forecast.

A permanent SDR’s employer also pays employer’s National Insurance at 15% on earnings above £5,000 a year (HMRC rates and thresholds).

The employer must pay at least 3% into a workplace pension on qualifying earnings (GOV.UK).

None of that sits inside a fractional day rate.

A fractional SDR also carries their own unbilled days, holidays and tools.

That is why we show the floor and ask you to compare quotes against it, rather than print a market rate that no one has measured.

Commission is the other gap.

The permanent figures are base salary, and the seat usually pays commission on top: Sales Recruit UK puts the same SaaS SDR at £49,000 OTE.

The last row of the table spreads that OTE across working days too, as our arithmetic.

09/ fractional sdr day rate

Fractional SDR day rate: the floor, and how to read a quote

On the permanent figures, a fractional SDR day rate floor runs from about £140 to £240 (our arithmetic: base ÷ 220 working days).

The low end is the ONS lower quartile for business sales executives.

The high end is that group’s upper quartile.

For an official view, the ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings has no SDR code.

Its nearest group is business sales executives, with a 2025 full-time median of £37,924.

That group is broader than the SDR title.

A quote above the floor is not wrong.

It may include tools, data, a list, research time or the cost of the person’s own business.

Ask what it covers before you compare.

10/ before the first call

What every SDR must follow, fractional or not

Outbound calls and emails fall under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

The ICO’s direct marketing guidance sets out the rules for calls, email and texts, including marketing to other businesses.

Agree whose data and whose lists the SDR will use before they start.

Roles on the board are listed on fractional SDR jobs and, for every engagement type, on SDR jobs.

Fractional SDR salary FAQ

The questions people ask before bringing in a fractional SDR.

No independent UK source publishes one. Spread across 220 working days, Sales Recruit UK’s £33,000 permanent SaaS SDR base comes to about £150 a day, and one day a week for 46 weeks to about £6,900 a year (our arithmetic). That is a pro-rata floor for comparison, not a market rate.
We publish no market rate, because none is measured. On permanent pay, the pro-rata floor runs from about £140 a day (ONS lower quartile, business sales executives) to £240 (upper quartile), and £150–£200 on Sales Recruit UK’s London & South East SaaS range (our arithmetic, rounded to the nearest £10).
The day rate you agree times the days. As a floor, two days a week on a £33,000 permanent base comes to about £13,800 a year (£150 × 2 × 46, our arithmetic). Add VAT if the person is registered. We send a shortlist of 3–5, each with day rate, availability and IR35 position set out.
Write the brief: inbound or outbound, who the buyers are, whose data the SDR will use and who books the meetings into whose diary. Agree the days, the day rate and the notice. See hire a fractional SDR for the steps.
Only if you agree it. The permanent figures behind our arithmetic are base salary; a permanent SDR usually earns commission on top. Sales Recruit UK puts the same SaaS SDR at £49,000 OTE, about £220 a day spread across 220 working days (our arithmetic).
It depends on how the engagement runs. A medium or large client makes the status determination; for a small private-sector client, the worker’s own company decides (HMRC). Status is set engagement by engagement.
A firm’s price list is its own offer, not a measure of the market. We quote published permanent salaries and show our arithmetic instead. For the permanent figures in full, see SDR salary.
