Role: Lead Commercial Analyst
- Location: Hybrid (3 days per week Clapham Junction, 2 days remote)
- We’re The Gym Group...
We’re one of the UK’s leading fitness businesses. With more than one million members, 265+ gyms and ambitious plans to keep growing, we’re the UK’s second-largest gym operator by membership and the fourth largest in Europe.
Our mission is simple: to break down barriers to fitness for all. We’re large enough to make a meaningful difference, but agile enough for individuals to influence how we grow. Technology, data and new ideas play a central role - and you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership, challenge how things are done and see the impact of your work.
Just as importantly, we’re a people-first business where everyone is encouraged to be themselves. We’ve been named one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work and awarded Investors in People Gold, alongside a host of other awards recognising our culture and our people.
About the role...
As Lead Commercial Analyst, you’ll help our Product and Retention teams make better decisions about how we grow and retain our membership. You’ll work with senior stakeholders to frame the right questions, investigate what is happening and why, and turn your findings into clear recommendations they can act on. You’ll be confident working directly with complex data and challenging the quality of an analysis. Just as importantly, you’ll be comfortable forming a commercial point of view, explaining the trade-offs and leading the conversation about what should happen next. This is a role for someone who wants to own insight from the initial question through to the decision it informs.
What you'll be doing...
Partnering with Product and Retention teams to identify the commercial questions that matter most, scope the analysis needed and agree how success will be measured
Investigating member behaviour, retention and payment performance to understand the drivers behind trends and identify opportunities for action
Leading analytical projects from problem definition and hands-on investigation through to a clear recommendation and discussion of next steps
Sizing opportunities and evaluating proposed initiatives, including the likely impact, assumptions and trade-offs
Designing measurement approaches before initiatives launch, then assessing results and explaining what they mean for future decisions
Presenting findings to senior stakeholders in a way that makes the insight, its limitations and the recommended action easy to understand
Building trusted relationships across Product, Commercial, Marketing, Operations and Technology, and constructively challenging assumptions when the evidence points in a different direction
Supporting and mentoring analysts in the team, helping raise the standard of both analysis and the recommendations that come from it
Identifying opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of analytics through automation, new tools and AI
About you...
Experience owning commercial insight projects from an initial, sometimes ambiguous business question through to recommendations that have informed decisions
Strong commercial judgement: you can interpret results in context, prioritise what matters and explain what action you would recommend and why
The confidence to present and discuss your findings with senior, non-technical stakeholders, including challenging assumptions and handling questions about your conclusions
Strong SQL skills and the ability to work independently with complex datasets, assess the quality of the underlying analysis and get hands-on when needed
Experience defining measures of success and evaluating the impact of product, retention or other commercial initiatives
A proactive, curious approach: you spot opportunities, ask useful questions and pursue the explanation behind the numbers
Experience in a consumer, membership or subscription business would be particularly relevant, but we’re interested in how you’ve used insight to influence decisions in any commercial setting.
