Fractional US Tax Compliance Partner, Barnaby Cecil
FRACTIONAL EXEC JOB · FINANCIAL SERVICES SECTOR · LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM

Barnaby Cecil Tax Ltd seeks an experienced US tax compliance specialist (EA/CPA) to work fractionally on a case-by-case basis, preparing US returns for UK-resident high-earners and tech executives. No fixed hours, fees agreed per engagement; you retain your own filing infrastructure and invoice the firm. Ideal for an established solo practitioner or small practice seeking selective, high-quality overflow work.
Fractional US Tax Compliance Partner — the balanced verdict
- Genuinely fractional — case-by-case scope, flexible availability, no lead-gen pressure

- Clear operational support from central team (document collection, admin, client coordination)
- Work within your own professional infrastructure; you control pricing and hours
- Employer direct; well-defined firm with established UK tax and financial-planning practice
- No day rate or hourly guidance stated; you must propose your own pricing structure—clarify expectations upfront
- Reliant on their client pipeline; no guaranteed minimum volume or retainer
- Professional indemnity insurance requirement and US filing capability (PTIN, EFIN, tax software) are non-negotiable prerequisites
Fractional US Tax Compliance Partner — the posting in full
UK-based | Remote | Freelance / Fractional
Barnaby Cecil Tax Ltd is building a specialist tax service alongside Barnaby Cecil Financial Planning. Our clients are predominantly high-earning professionals and senior executives. We are now developing a proposition for US citizens and other US-connected individuals living in the UK, particularly senior professionals and technology executives.
We are looking for an experienced US tax compliance specialist who can work with us on a freelance/fractional basis and take responsibility for the preparation and filing of US tax returns for UK-resident clients.
This is not a full-time role and we are not looking to build a large-volume tax-return operation. We are looking for someone highly experienced, technically safe and comfortable working behind a boutique financial-planning and tax business.
The role
You would be responsible for the US compliance element of selected client relationships, including: preparing US federal income tax returns, principally Form 1040; preparing relevant state income tax returns; foreign tax credit calculations; FBAR reporting; FATCA / Form 8938 reporting; reporting of UK employment income, investment income and capital gains; understanding the US treatment of UK pensions and retirement arrangements; handling US reporting associated with UK companies or business interests where appropriate; dealing with equity compensation, including RSUs and share awards; identifying potential PFIC issues; identifying circumstances requiring additional specialist advice; responding to routine IRS queries and correspondence; obtaining client approval and completing electronic filing.
You would work closely with our UK tax and financial-planning team. Barnaby Cecil would remain the client's primary relationship and contracting firm. You would provide the specialist US compliance capability behind that relationship and invoice Barnaby Cecil Tax Ltd for your work.
We would then invoice the client separately.
Who we are looking for
Ideally you will have: substantial experience preparing US tax returns for US citizens and green-card holders living in the UK; either IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) or US CPA status; a current PTIN; existing access to professional US tax-return software; existing electronic filing capability, preferably through your own firm or established EFIN/ERO arrangement; strong practical knowledge of Form 1040, FBAR, FATCA, foreign tax credits and state filings; experience dealing with UK pensions, UK investments and UK employment income from a US tax perspective; good awareness of PFIC issues; experience with US expatriate clients; professional indemnity insurance appropriate to the work undertaken; strong information-security and confidentiality standards.
Experience with senior technology executives, RSUs, stock options or internationally mobile high-net-worth clients would be particularly useful.
What we do not need
We are not looking for someone to generate leads or build a book of clients. We are also not necessarily looking for someone to provide every element of complex cross-border strategy personally.
Where a matter requires highly specialist international, corporate, estate or legal tax advice, we expect the right person to recognise that boundary and recommend escalation.
What matters most is that you can reliably own the US compliance process from information gathering through to filing.
How the relationship would work
Initially this would be a freelance/fractional arrangement.
Work would be agreed case by case, with scope and fees agreed before work begins. You would: receive organised client information from our team; prepare and review the US compliance work; identify missing information or technical concerns; raise queries through our central tax team; participate in client calls where useful; obtain the required filing approvals; and complete the US filing through your existing infrastructure.
Our operations team would support document collection, administration and client coordination. The aim is to create a joined-up experience where the client's UK financial planning, UK tax position and US reporting obligations are considered together rather than handled in isolation.
About Barnaby Cecil
Barnaby Cecil Financial Planning is a boutique financial-planning firm working primarily with senior NHS consultants with substantial private practices and, increasingly, US-connected professionals living in the UK.
Barnaby Cecil Tax Ltd is being built as a separate specialist tax business designed to integrate tax advice and compliance with the client's wider financial plan.
We are intentionally building a small, high-quality service rather than a high-volume compliance practice.
Interested?
If this sounds like a good fit, please send us: a short summary of your US tax experience; your current professional qualifications; confirmation of whether you hold an EA, CPA, PTIN and/or EFIN; the tax software you currently use; your experience with US taxpayers living in the UK; your typical availability; your preferred pricing structure; and confirmation of your current professional indemnity insurance.
We would be particularly interested in speaking to experienced professionals who already run a small US tax practice or consultancy and have additional capacity for a high-quality fractional relationship.
