FP&A salary · base, bonus and package, 2026

What an FP&A manager earns, in base, bonus and package

An FP&A salary in 2026 runs from £63,500 to £84,750, with a median of £74,250, on Robert Half’s national figures for a permanent financial planning and analysis manager.

In London, Robert Half puts the median at £101,000.

Experience, sector and the size of the business move the number more than the title does.

Base is only part of the package: bonus, pension and employer’s National Insurance sit on top.

When you hire an FP&A manager through us, we send a shortlist of 3–5, each with pay or day rate, availability and IR35 position set out.

FP&A roles on the board

Fractional recruiting starts with the brief, not the CV pile. Send a FP&A brief and we come back with a shortlist of three to five candidates, each through five-stage vetting.

01/ the role

What an FP&A manager does, and what sets the pay

A financial planning and analysis manager runs the forward-looking side of finance: the budget, the forecasts, the long-range plan, variance analysis and the models the board uses to make decisions.

Robert Half’s description of the seat adds scenario planning and the planning and reporting timetable.

Most FP&A managers lead a small team of analysts and report to the finance director or CFO.

Most are qualified accountants.

Robert Half asks for a fully qualified accountant with the ACA, ACCA or CIMA: the ACA is the ICAEW’s chartered qualification, the ACCA qualification is ACCA’s, and the CIMA Professional Qualification is the management accounting route many FP&A people take.

Experience sets the pay first.

Morgan McKinley’s 2026 figures for an FP&A manager at a large London company run from £65,000–£75,000 with up to three years’ experience to £85,000–£100,000 with more than five.

FD Capital puts an FP&A manager with 5–10 years post-qualification at £72,000–£95,000 in London and £60,000–£80,000 in the regions.

Sector comes next.

Robert Half’s national median for an FP&A manager in financial services is £82,500, against £74,250 across all sectors.

In London the financial services median is £112,250.

02/ scope

How to set the pay when you hire an FP&A manager

1. Decide the level before the salary

An analyst runs the numbers, a manager runs the planning cycle and a head of FP&A designs the function and partners the CFO.

Write down which of the three the business needs.

The gap between them is tens of thousands of pounds a year.

2. Choose the route

A permanent appointment suits a business that runs a monthly forecast and an annual budget every year.

If the planning work fills only part of the week, hire a fractional FP&A lead instead; see fractional FP&A salary for the day rates.

If you need cover for a budget season or a model build, see interim FP&A salary.

3. Price the tools and the bonus

FD Capital says experience of a planning platform such as Anaplan or Adaptive commands a 10–20% salary premium over Excel-only candidates at the same experience.

It also says PE-backed businesses and financial services firms typically pay performance bonuses of 15–30% of base at manager level and above.

What we do on a finance brief

We recruit permanent, fractional, interim, part-time and temporary finance professionals, and non-executive directors.

We send a shortlist of 3–5, each with pay or day rate, availability and IR35 position set out, and every candidate goes through our five-stage vetting first.

05/ economics

What the salary costs the business, beyond the base

A salary is not the whole cost of an employee.

For 2026 to 2027, employer’s National Insurance is 15% on earnings above £5,000 a year (HMRC rates and thresholds).

On Robert Half’s £74,250 median, that is about £10,390 a year (our arithmetic).

Under automatic enrolment the employer must also pay at least 3% into a workplace pension on qualifying earnings (GOV.UK).

Many schemes pay more.

The bonus is pay too.

HMRC treats a cash bonus as earnings, with PAYE tax and Class 1 National Insurance deducted through payroll, so budget employer’s National Insurance on the bonus as well as the base.

The national figures measure different things.

Robert Half’s FP&A salary UK range for a manager, £63,500–£84,750 with a median of £74,250, is a starting-salary projection built from its own placements and checked against job-posting data.

For an official view, the ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings reports earnings by occupation, but it has no FP&A code.

Finance and investment analysts and advisers (SOC 2422), the group an FP&A analyst is coded to, had a full-time median of £50,330 in 2025.

Financial managers and directors (SOC 1131), which also takes in finance directors, had £76,447.

Salary, day rate or retainer: the other ways to pay for planning

A permanent salary buys an FP&A manager every day, with notice on both sides.

An interim is paid by the day for full-time cover over a fixed period; see interim FP&A salary for the day rates.

A fractional FP&A lead works part of the week on a day rate; see fractional FP&A salary.
