Interim RevOps salary · day rates, 2026

What an interim head of RevOps earns, by the day and by the assignment

An interim RevOps salary is a day rate, not a salary.

Robert Walters’ 2026 survey puts the contract rate for a head of revenue operations in London at £900–£1,600 a day, paid through PAYE, with an average of £1,290.

A revenue operations manager on contract earns £300–£600 a day.

The rate covers full-time work for a fixed period, with no salary, bonus or equity behind it.

When you hire an interim head of RevOps through us, we send a shortlist of 3–5, each with day rate, availability and IR35 position set out.

RevOps and revenue roles on the board

Fractional Quest is a fractional recruitment agency: send a Interim head of RevOps brief and we come back with a shortlist of three to five vetted candidates.

01/ the role

How an interim head of RevOps is paid, and why the unit is the day

An interim head of RevOps holds the revenue operations seat full-time for a defined period: a departure, a CRM migration, a new forecast before a funding round, or the clean-up after an acquisition.

The interim is paid for the days worked.

For the same seat bought for part of the week, see fractional RevOps jobs.

Robert Walters publishes its revenue operations day rates as PAYE contract rates, paid through payroll.

A contractor on PAYE may be employed by the agency or by an umbrella company, which makes the legal deductions from gross pay.

An interim who works through their own limited company is paid differently, and pays themselves through salary and dividends from what the company earns.

Either way, there is no employer pension, bonus or equity, and the interim carries the gaps between assignments.

Across every function, the Institute of Interim Management’s 2026 survey puts the average assignment at 10.0 months, the average gap between assignments at 3.2 months and the average days billed in a year at 148.

02/ scope

How to hire an interim head of RevOps

1. Define the mandate and its end

Say what the interim must deliver and by when: one version of the pipeline, a working forecast, a migrated CRM, a commission plan the sales team trusts, a handover to a permanent hire.

A defined end makes the days countable.

For the sales roles the plan pays, the Institute of Sales Professionals’ Sales Capability Framework sets out what each level should be able to do.

2. Settle the engagement route and IR35 at the start

Decide whether the interim will be paid through PAYE or through their own company.

If it is their own company and your business is medium or large, you make the IR35 status determination and give the interim your reasons.

Settle it before you go to market, because it changes the rate candidates quote.

3. Give access on day one

An interim RevOps lead needs admin rights to the CRM and the reporting tools from the first day.

The CRM holds personal data, so agree how the interim will work to the UK GDPR principles, and confirm that every workflow, report and admin account they build belongs to your company.

What we do on an interim brief

We recruit interim, fractional, part-time, temporary and permanent revenue leaders, and non-executive directors.

We send a shortlist of 3–5, each with day rate, availability and IR35 position set out, and every candidate goes through our five-stage vetting first.

Interim pay and IR35: who decides, and what it changes

IR35 applies when the interim works through their own company, and status turns on how the engagement runs, not on the title or the contract alone.

Under the off-payroll working rules (IR35), a medium or large client makes the status determination; for a small client outside the public sector, the interim’s own company decides.

The rules apply contract by contract.

It shows in the rates.

The IIM’s 2026 survey puts the average interim day rate at £949 outside IR35 and £830 inside, across every function.

08/ interim revops day rate

Interim RevOps day rate by title

The interim RevOps day rate rises with the scope of the seat.

Robert Walters puts a head of revenue operations on contract in London at £900–£1,600 a day, a revenue operations director at £400–£800 and a revenue operations manager at £300–£600.

All three are PAYE rates.

Robert Walters ranks the head of revenue operations above the director, and the day rates follow that order.

Other publishers rank the two titles the other way, so read the scope of the brief before you compare a quote with this table.

09/ interim head of revenue operations

Interim head of revenue operations, annualised

No interim head of revenue operations is paid a salary, but the day rate can be compared with one.

At Robert Walters’ £1,290 average, 220 days would bill £283,800.

At the IIM’s all-function average of 148 days billed in a year, the same rate bills £190,920.

Both are our arithmetic, a comparison and not a salary.

A full month of interim cover, at about 22 working days and Robert Walters’ £1,290 average, comes to £28,380 (our arithmetic).

Across Robert Walters’ range of £900–£1,600 a day, a month runs from £19,800 to £35,200 (our arithmetic).

If the interim invoices through a company registered for VAT, VAT is added on top.

The interim pays their own pension, holidays and the gaps between assignments out of it.

For scale, Robert Walters’ average for a permanent head of revenue operations in a London medium enterprise is £170,800 in basic salary, before bonus, pension and employer’s National Insurance.

See RevOps salary for the permanent benchmarks in full.

Interim, permanent or part of the week: which pay basis fits

Interim cover buys a full-time head of RevOps for a fixed period.

A permanent hire is paid a salary and package; see RevOps salary.

If the work fits into part of the week, a fractional RevOps lead on a day rate may cost less over the same months; see fractional RevOps jobs.

No source we can cite publishes a fractional RevOps day rate yet, so we set out each candidate’s rate on the shortlist instead.

For the permanent salary spread across part-week days (our arithmetic, not a market rate), see fractional RevOps salary.

Interim RevOps salary FAQ

The questions people ask before bringing in an interim head of RevOps.

An interim head of RevOps is paid a day rate rather than a salary. Robert Walters’ 2026 survey puts the PAYE contract rate for a head of revenue operations in London at £900–£1,600 a day, with an average of £1,290. At Robert Walters’ average, 220 days would bill £283,800 and 148 days £190,920 (our arithmetic).

At Robert Walters’ £1,290 average and about 22 working days, a month of interim cover is £28,380 (our arithmetic). Across its £900–£1,600 range, a month runs from £19,800 to £35,200 (our arithmetic).
Define the mandate and its end date, settle whether the interim is paid through PAYE or their own company, decide IR35 status if it is their own company, and give CRM access on day one. We send a shortlist of 3–5 with day rate, availability and IR35 position set out.
The day rate times the days. Robert Walters’ London PAYE contract rate for a head of revenue operations is £900–£1,600 a day. Ask whether a quote is the rate paid to the contractor or the charge to you: an agency or umbrella charge can carry employer’s National Insurance on top of the contractor’s pay. We set out the day rate for every candidate on the shortlist.
No source we can cite publishes an assignment length for revenue operations. Across every interim function, the IIM’s 2026 survey puts the average assignment at 10.0 months and the average gap between assignments at 3.2 months.
It depends on how the engagement runs. IR35 applies when the interim works through their own company; a medium or large client makes the status determination, and a small private-sector client leaves it to the interim’s company (HMRC). The IIM’s 2026 survey puts average day rates at £949 outside IR35 and £830 inside, across every function.
