Full-time Head of Marketing — the balanced verdict

Why this role stands out

  • Dual-remit role (member growth + B2B commercial) suits experienced generalists; clear strategic scope
  • Healthcare/pharma specialism valued and explicitly desired
  • Established platform (245k+ doctors, 50k daily active) with data and revenue leverage
  • Team leadership and budget ownership at scale (substantial marketing budgets mentioned)
  • Hybrid working arrangement offers flexibility within full-time structure

Worth checking before you apply

  • Broad scope across member acquisition, commercial ABM, brand, content, events, analytics and team leadership—risk of role sprawl without specialist support
  • Reporting line not explicitly stated (CEO mentioned but primary stakeholder unclear)
  • No salary range disclosed; essential to clarify compensation early

Company Description

  • About the Business Division:

This role sits within Doctors.net.uk, a subsidiary of M3 Inc. Doctors.net.uk is the UK's largest professional network of doctors; a closed community used by over 50,000 doctors daily and with a total membership of over 245,000. Products range from a trusted email communications platform to robust news and educational web pages along with our world-class sponsored pharmaceutical content and doctors’ own user-generated content. Our mission is to continually improve these offerings as well as identifying new ways to support our community of doctors throughout their careers.

Job Description

The Head of Marketing will own marketing activity across both sides of DNUK's business: growing and engaging the doctor (HCP) member community, and driving commercial value through pharmaceutical client and partnership marketing. This role blends member/platform growth marketing with B2B demand generation and account-based marketing, and will work closely with Product, Development, Content/Editorial, Sales and senior leadership — including the Platform and Synergy Group — to ensure a cohesive, high-impact approach across all channels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Member Platform Marketing (HCP Acquisition, Engagement & Retention)

Own all marketing activity for DNUK's HCP platforms, driving doctor acquisition, engagement and retention.

Develop and execute campaigns that grow registered HCP membership and deepen engagement, community participation and trust among members.

Partner with Product, Development and Content/Editorial teams to align marketing strategy with platform development, technical implementation and editorial planning.

Use A/B testing, personalisation and user-journey optimisation to continually improve member acquisition and retention.

Client & Commercial (B2B) Marketing

Drive commercial value from pharmaceutical clients and emerging partnership revenue streams through targeted marketing and account-based marketing (ABM) approaches.

Work closely with the sales team to align marketing activity with revenue goals, pipeline growth and sales enablement for pharmaceutical and healthcare clients, as well as for advertising agency clients.

Develop targeted messaging and content journeys for pharmaceutical/healthcare clients.

Support the development of new partnership and revenue opportunities arising from DNUK's platform audience and data.

Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy aligned with DNUK's growth objectives and the wider M3 Group strategy.

Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to define go-to-market strategy and growth opportunities across both member and commercial audiences.

Define KPIs and measurement frameworks, manage marketing budget allocation, and demonstrate ROI to internal stakeholders, including C-suite audiences.

Brand & Content

Lead brand strategy, messaging and positioning across all channels, for both HCP members and commercial clients.

Oversee content strategy and development, including thought-leadership content, case studies and multimedia assets, in collaboration with the Editorial team.

Lead corporate communications activity and manage public relations.

Digital Marketing & Analytics

Oversee multi-channel digital marketing including SEO, content marketing, email marketing, social media, paid media and partnerships.

Use analytics, attribution and ROI measurement to track performance, optimise campaigns and inform decision-making.

Manage the CRM and marketing technology stack, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 in the handling of member and client data.

Events, Conferences & Webinars

Develop an integrated events and webinar strategy aligned with both member engagement and client demand generation goals.

Evaluate event and webinar performance and return on investment, optimising future strategy and investment.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, manage and develop a high-performing, specialist marketing team.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.

Manage agency relationships and external vendors, ensuring compliance with the Company's Anti-Bribery Policy in relation to any gifts, hospitality or client entertainment.

Qualifications

Education and Training

Degree in Marketing, Business or a related field (desirable: MBA, relevant postgraduate qualification, or professional digital marketing certification).

Experience — Essential

7+ years of marketing experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role, with proven people management experience.

Proven track record of developing and executing successful digital marketing strategies that drive measurable business outcomes.

Experience across both member/audience growth marketing and B2B/commercial marketing, ideally including account-based marketing (ABM).

Experience managing substantial marketing budgets with clear accountability.

Strong analytical skills, with experience interpreting complex data sets and translating insights into actionable strategies.

Experience — Desirable

Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical education or professional community/digital platform environments.

Familiarity with the UK medical profession and pharmaceutical marketing compliance requirements (e.g. ABPI Code of Practice, MHRA guidance).

Experience with marketing automation and CRM platforms.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of healthcare, pharmaceutical or professional community platform environments, and understanding of healthcare professional audiences and their information needs.

Knowledge of pharmaceutical marketing regulations (ABPI Code, MHRA guidance) and healthcare data protection requirements.

Deep expertise in multi-channel digital marketing, including SEO, content marketing, email marketing, social media, paid media and partnerships.

Strong understanding of marketing attribution, ROI measurement and KPI/measurement framework design.

Ability to translate marketing objectives into clear requirements for Product, Development and Content/Editorial stakeholders.
