Cyber Chain Alliance (11–50 staff, security/consultancy) is hiring a Fractional Head of FP&A on a deliberately flexible basis: 3 days/week for the first 12 weeks to establish FP&A foundations, then 2 days/week ongoing. Remote-first with occasional in-person attendance. The role is hands-on and model-led (Fathom essential), supporting operational directors with budgeting, forecasting, service-line profitability and pricing decisions. Open to either part-time employment or limited-company contract. No day rate stated.

Fractional FP&A Lead — the balanced verdict

Why this role stands out
  • Explicitly fractional from outset; scaling down after setup suggests realistic scope and employer buy-in to part-time arrangement
  • Clear remitforward-looking financial planning, not back-office; direct access to decision-makers and operational autonomy
  • Fathom expertise valued and explicitly required; hands-on modelling role, not just oversight
  • Professional services / SME experience preferred; business model (selling time/utilisation) well-defined
Worth checking before you apply
  • No day rate or salary range provided; negotiate before engagement
  • Fathom expertise is 'essential'—if you lack hands-on Fathom configuration, raise it early
  • First three months at 3 days/week, then 2—confirm flexibility if your calendar prefers consistency

Fractional Head of FP&A Remote-first | Two days per week (three for the first three months) | Part-time employed or contract

Cyber Chain Alliance was founded from a desire to do consultancy differently.

We believe organisations deserve practical advice that fits their reality, and good people deserve autonomy, trust and the chance to influence the business they’re part of.

As we grow, we’re looking for a Fractional Head of FP&A to build the financial planning capability that supports our next stage.

The role in real terms You’ll work directly with our Director of Operations, giving the directors a clear view of performance and helping them make informed commercial decisions.

Operational finance is already established, with bookkeeping, payroll and statutory accounts covered. Your focus will be forward-looking planning, profitability and decision support.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll: Own budgeting, rolling forecasts and short-term cash flow planning, with scenario analysis to support decisions on pricing, headcount and costs. Build models for engagement and service line profitability, covering day rates, utilisation, realisation, delivery costs and overhead recovery. Support pricing, bids, Statements of Work and renewals. Develop Fathom as our reporting and analysis platform and produce clear monthly reporting for the directors. Contribute to management accounts alongside our operational team and external accountants, with occasional support for business cases, funding and employee equity work.

What makes this different You’ll have the opportunity to shape how financial planning works in a growing business, with direct access to decision-makers and the autonomy to make things happen.

We need someone who enjoys building the models, understanding the detail and explaining what it means. Someone who can challenge assumptions constructively and apply the right level of rigour for our size and stage.

We’ll agree priorities together, keeping the scope realistic within a fractional commitment.

Who we’re looking for You’ll bring senior FP&A, commercial finance or Finance Director experience within an SME or professional services business, whether professionally qualified or qualified by experience.

Hands-on Fathom experience is essential, including building and configuring within it. You’ll also have strong financial modelling skills and experience analysing profitability in a business that sells people’s time.

You’ll be comfortable establishing capability from the ground up, explaining financial issues in plain language and managing your own delivery with discretion and accountability.

Experience in cyber security, IT services or technology consultancy would be useful, alongside previous fractional work or exposure to funding, due diligence or exit processes.

Built for real life The role is remote-first, with flexibility over how your days are distributed and occasional travel for planning sessions and team events.

You’ll start at three days per week for the first three months to establish the core models and reporting, moving to two days per week thereafter. We’re open to either part-time employment or a contract through your own limited company.

We’re building a sustainable cyber security business that does good work and gives people room to make an impact.

If that sounds like something you’d like to help shape, we’d love to hear from you.

Please note: This is a UK-based, remote-first role, with occasional in-person attendance required for planning sessions and team events. Candidates must reside in the UK and have the right to work in the UK.
