  • YearsMinimum 5 years’ experience in one of the following: Business-to-business sales, with direct sales to contractors.

Overview

  • Business Development Manager Needed for the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, TX.

Cummings Electrical is a leading electrical contractor in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, delivering turnkey solutions backed by deep construction-management expertise and some of the most skilled electricians in the region. Our work sits at the leading edge of the industry — Mission Critical and AI Data Centers, Semiconductor, Advanced Technology Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Industrial Manufacturing.

We challenge industry convention by pairing modern technology with disciplined operational principles: in-house Preconstruction and Engineering, licensed Professional Engineers on staff, a dedicated BIM team, prefabrication and integrated manufacturing operations that let us self-perform turnkey solutions. Controlled, strategic growth has created the need for an additional Business Development Manager to help us open the next set of doors.

Position Summary

This position works closely with Operations, Preconstruction/Engineering & Estimating, as well as cross-functional teams, to create new ideas and drive business development and marketing efforts — including planning and strategy. You will focus on the successful development of existing accounts and the identification of new market opportunities.

You are not selling a commodity. You are selling the ability to execute a hyperscale data center campus, an ISO-classified cleanroom fit-out, a semiconductor tool hookup, or a greenfield hospital campus or expansion without drama. Your job is to find the clients who need that, understand what they actually need, and put the right Cummings team in front of them at the right moment.

This position requires experience in construction sales to contractors, developers, and owners. A background in electrical estimating or project management is a plus. Candidates must live in and be familiar with this area to be considered.

Responsibilities

Business Development & Prospecting

Create new relationships with potential buyers of electrical construction services.

Dedication to solicit new leads and generate sales opportunities.

Identify new work leads and manage follow-up, recordkeeping and information distribution.

Document and maintain all touch-point activities within the CRM system.

Account Development & Cross-Selling

Establish and maintain effective contact with existing accounts to maximize cross-selling opportunities.

Determine client needs and evaluate company resources and capabilities in light of those needs.

Conduct post-sale follow-ups with customers to ensure sales agreements have been accomplished and customers are satisfied with all aspects of the transaction.

Market Strategy & Networking

  • Prepare, execute and track action plans for specific target markets.
  • Strategize and communicate with team members regarding new industry opportunities.
  • Attend industry meetings and professional societies as a means of networking — AGC, ABC, IEC, 7x24 Exchange, SMPS, ASHE, and sector-specific groups.
  • Marketing, Presentations & Sales Support
  • Assist in the development of marketing and advertising material.
  • Assist in creating and delivering effective team presentations
  • Assist with estimating and/or budgeting activities within the sales process through close of sale.
  • Work effectively with others in a team-based environment to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.
  • Qualifications
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in one of the following:
  • Business-to-business sales, with direct sales to contractors.

Construction-related experience; any direct experience in estimating, project management, or sales and marketing within commercial electrical construction is a plus.

Working knowledge of the North Texas construction market and the firms active within it.

A stable and consistent employment history.

Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, clean driving record.

Willing to maintain a regular in-office presence, work flexible hours and some weekends, and travel overnight occasionally to cover client events and out-of-area sales opportunities.

ATTRIBUTES & SKILLS

Ability to generate new business and sales opportunities within construction-related services.

Well-trained in sales fundamentals; a structured sales training program is a plus.

Polished presentation skills, with the ability to think and react to situations quickly and confidently.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Enthusiastic, outgoing, competitive, self-motivated and results-oriented.

Genuinely enjoys people — builds rapport quickly and maintains relationships that outlast any single project.

Working knowledge of electrical scope and MEP coordination sufficient to hold a credible conversation with an owner’s engineer or a general contractor’s preconstruction lead.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base salary commensurate with experience, plus a discretionary annual bonus. Excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision and 401(k).
