Full-time Operations Manager, Mace
FULL-TIME OPS JOB · CONSTRUCTION SECTOR · PRESTON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM

Mace is recruiting a permanent Operations Director to lead a major Defence programme in Preston from early 2027, with full P&L, team, and stakeholder accountability across a complex air systems environment. The role is structured as full-time and requires UK Security Clearance. Mace explicitly welcomes flexible/part-time discussion if suitable, but this is a traditional senior permanent leadership position, not a fractional or interim placement.
Full-time Operations Manager — the balanced verdict
Why this role stands out
- Genuine employer (Mace, FTSE 250 construction/consultancy giant) with established Defence credentials and long-term programme stability.
- Senior leadership scope — full strategic and commercial ownership of a major portfolio; team development, account growth, and executive stakeholder management.
- Transparent on flex appetite — closing line signals genuine openness to part-time/hybrid if the candidate can make it work.
- Competitive benefits package including car allowance, medical, pension, 27 days leave, and explicit wellbeing/inclusion messaging.
Worth checking before you apply
- Start date is early 2027 (4+ months away); slow hiring pipeline suggests lengthy onboarding and security clearance process.
- UK Security Clearance is mandatory and non-negotiable — significant gating factor and lead time.
- Role is fundamentally permanent, full-time and location-dependent (Preston); flex invitation is courtesy, not core design.
