Interim
Hire an interim manager or a temp?
Interim management is for change; temporary staffing is for capacity.
Hire an interim manager when an outcome must be delivered by someone senior who will leave afterwards. Hire temporary staff when you need hands for a period.
Interim managers are often available at short notice because they move between assignments, but we do not promise a start date.
The working pattern
What changes when the interim manager is interim?
An interim manager is an independent senior executive engaged full-time for a finite assignment, who delivers change and leaves after a handover. They are not a temporary worker filling a seat indefinitely.
The illustrative brief: a factory after its operations director left. The operations director left during a site consolidation.
The appointment owns: An interim manager runs operations and completes the consolidation over six months.
Another owner retains: The MD keeps headcount decisions; the board appoints the permanent director.
The case is illustrative; it does not describe a Fractional Quest placement.

Vetting
What happens before anyone reaches your shortlist?
Five stages before a candidate reaches a shortlist of three to five.
- Pedigree screenTenureWe verify prior tenure in the seat, at the scale and stage you need. No consultant presenting as an executive.
- Mandate fitFitFit to your stage, sector and the problem the seat exists to solve, not a CV keyword.
- Reference deep-diveVerifyWe take references ourselves, from recent clients and boards: what they delivered, not what they titled it.
- ShortlistShortlistThree to five candidates, each with day rate, availability and IR35 position set out.
- Kick-offStartScope, first-month outcomes and the contract agreed before day one.
The full process is on how we vet.
