Head of marketing jobs · permanent, interim and fractional
Head of marketing jobs are senior roles that lead a company’s marketing team and plan, usually reporting to the CEO, a marketing director or a CMO. The board below lists the head of marketing roles on our board, permanent roles first where the posting says full-time, with marketing director roles beside them.
We recruit permanent, interim, fractional and part-time marketing leaders. On every brief we send a shortlist of 3–5, each with pay or day rate, availability and IR35 position set out, after five-stage vetting.

Current head of marketing and marketing director roles
Fractional recruitment works differently from a permanent search — shorter, scoped by days a week, and priced on the engagement. Send a head of marketing brief and we come back with a shortlist of three to five vetted candidates.
01/ the role
Head of marketing jobs: the seat and what the board lists
A head of marketing runs the marketing plan and the people who deliver it: positioning, campaigns, content, digital channels, events and the budget, with the numbers that show what worked. In a smaller company the head of marketing is the most senior marketer and reports to the CEO or founder. In a larger one the seat sits below a marketing director or CMO and runs a team or a product line.
The board below lists head of marketing roles, with marketing director roles beside them, because employers advertise overlapping seats under both titles. Where a posting says full-time we list it as permanent and show those first; interim and fractional roles follow under their own labels. When there are few, the board widens to marketing leadership roles and says so.
Looking for part-week work instead? Fractional head of marketing jobs are listed on their own page, and so are part-time marketing director jobs.

How to get a head of marketing job
1. Run a plan, not only a channel
Most heads of marketing get there from a marketing manager seat. The National Careers Service describes the marketing manager as the person who plans how to promote products, services or brands and oversees all marketing activity, and names progression from marketing executive. The step up is owning the whole plan and budget, not one channel: show a plan you wrote, what it cost and what it returned.
2. Take the professional route
CIM’s qualifications run from the Foundation Certificate to the Diploma in Professional & Digital Marketing, which CIM aims at marketers stepping into a marketing manager role and senior progression. Chartered Marketer status follows graded membership, two consecutive years of CPD and an online assessment. The Marketing Society is a membership body for senior marketers; in England it looks for people in senior roles with five or more years of experience.
3. Know the advertising and data rules
A head of marketing signs off what the company says in public. Know the CAP Code enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority, the ICO’s direct marketing and PECR guidance for email, text and calls, and the CMA’s Green Claims Code if the product makes environmental claims. Interviewers ask.

Head of marketing vacancies: how they are titled and what to check
Head of marketing vacancies appear under several titles. Search for marketing lead, head of growth, head of brand and VP marketing as well, and read the scope: a "head of growth" role may be mostly paid acquisition, and a "VP marketing" in a US-owned business is often the head of marketing seat under another name. For the growth-led seat, see fractional head of growth jobs.
Before you accept a permanent offer, check the reporting line, the budget you will hold and the size of the team. Your employer must give you a written statement of employment particulars on your first day, including job title or a description of the work, pay, hours and holiday.
06/ permanent jobs
Permanent head of marketing jobs: what the seat pays
Robert Half’s 2026 salary guide puts a full-time head of marketing at £55,250 at the 25th percentile, £66,250 at the median and £73,500 at the 75th. Its median for a marketing director is £79,500 and for a CMO £147,000. These are base salaries; bonus and benefits vary by employer.
For the full table and the day rates, see head of marketing salary. For the seat above, see marketing director salary.

Head of marketing jobs by type
Fractional. A head of marketing for part of the week, often in a scale-up before it can carry a full-time leader. See fractional head of marketing jobs, or hire a head of marketing for part of the week.
Pay. Percentiles, averages and day rates: head of marketing salary, and the head of marketing day rate.
Interim. We have no separate interim head of marketing page; the nearest is interim marketing director jobs. Exec Capital publishes £400–£800 a day for an interim head of marketing at growth stage.
Part-time. Part-time marketing director jobs cover the part-time head of marketing seat too.
