Executive assistant jobs · permanent, temporary and fractional
Executive assistant jobs are roles supporting a senior leader: running their diary, inbox, meetings, travel and board papers, and the projects and follow-up they hand over. Most are permanent, full-time posts; others are part-time, temporary or fractional. The board below shows the EA roles on our board, permanent roles first where the posting says full-time, and says plainly when it has widened to the roles around the seat.
We recruit executive assistants on permanent, part-time, temporary and fractional terms. Hiring rather than looking? On every brief we send a shortlist of 3–5, each with pay or day rate, availability and IR35 position set out.

Executive assistant jobs jobs on the board
No Executive assistant jobs roles on the board right now.
We only show real vacancies from the last three months, each marked whether we could confirm it is still open — we never pad the board. New Executive assistant jobs roles appear here as our pipeline finds them.
Current EA and operations roles on our board
Fractional recruitment works differently from a permanent search — shorter, scoped by days a week, and priced on the engagement. Send a Executive Assistant brief and we come back with a shortlist of three to five vetted candidates.
01/ the role
Executive assistant jobs: what the board holds
The board on this page is for executive assistant roles: EA to a chief executive, founder or leadership team, senior EA and executive business partner. Our board is built mainly for senior leadership roles, and our job pipeline does not yet file EA roles under a label of their own. So when it holds no EA roles, the board shows the operations and chief-of-staff roles closest to the seat, and says that it has. It never presents one of those as an EA vacancy.
What the seat does
The National Careers Service lists the work: organising complex diaries and prioritising, managing projects with other teams, researching and summarising for senior managers, assisting with decisions, planning board meetings, events and travel, and handling sensitive information. A personal assistant does the diary, correspondence and travel; an EA adds the projects, the research and the board work. For the full picture, see what does an executive assistant do.
One seat, several ways to hold it
A permanent EA is employed and works with one leader for years. A temporary EA covers leave or a gap, often through an agency. A part-time EA is employed for set days a week. A fractional or virtual EA supports a leader for part of the week, often remotely and alongside other clients. The tasks are the same; the contract, the hours and the tax position are not.
02/ scope
How to get an executive assistant job
1. No degree required
The National Careers Service lists university, college, an apprenticeship, working your way up and private training courses as routes in. Employers accept degrees in any subject if you have the communication, organisational and IT skills they want, and they expect excellent IT skills and working knowledge of the main business software.
2. Build the administrative base
The business administrator apprenticeship is a Level 3 route that covers record and document production, organising meetings and minutes, travel logistics, project management and handling confidential information. Many EAs start as an administrator, team assistant or PA and move up through promotion. The Institute of Administrative Management offers qualifications and membership open to PAs, EAs and virtual assistants.
3. Use temporary work as a way in
The National Careers Service suggests temporary work through an EA or PA recruitment agency to gain experience, then applying for permanent roles. If you take an agency assignment, check your rights as an agency worker: you have a contract with the agency and work temporarily for a hirer. Our guide on how to become an executive assistant sets out the full route.
4. Know where the seat leads
With experience, an EA can work for a more senior leader, move to a larger organisation, or take on more responsibility in business operations. Some move into office or operations management; some into specialist EA work in legal, medical or financial settings, where sector knowledge counts.

05/ ea jobs
EA jobs: reading the posting
EA jobs are advertised as executive assistant, senior EA, EA to the CEO, executive business partner, team assistant or PA. The title matters less than four lines in the posting: which leader or team you will support, how many of them, whether board and committee papers are in the brief, and how many days are in the office.
Support for one chief executive and support for a whole leadership team are different jobs. Where the posting names several leaders, ask how your time is shared and who decides when priorities clash. Where it mentions projects, ask which ones and what you will own.
Every employee and worker must get a written statement of employment particulars on their first day, including the job title or a description of the work, pay, hours and place of work. Check it against the posting. For a template of what the role should cover, see our executive assistant job description.
06/ permanent executive assistant jobs
Permanent executive assistant jobs and the other ways to work
Permanent executive assistant jobs are employed roles with a salary, and they are the ones listed first on this page. Pay moves with the seniority of the leader supported, the size of the organisation, location and experience. Our executive assistant salary page sets out pay by level and region, each figure with its source.
Part-time executive assistant jobs are employed roles on fewer hours. Part-time workers must not be treated less favourably than comparable full-time workers on pay rates, holidays, pension and training, with some benefits applied pro rata. Every employee can also make a flexible working request from their first day, for fewer hours, different days or working from home.
Fractional and virtual EA work is usually self-employed or through your own company, for several clients. If you work through your own company, the off-payroll working rules (IR35) may apply: status turns on how the engagement runs, and a medium or large client makes the determination. Our fractional executive assistant page sets out how part-week EA support works, and fractional EA covers the roles.
