Marketing manager salary · base pay by source, region and sector, 2026
What a marketing manager earns, by source, region and sector
A marketing manager salary in 2026 runs from £37,500 to £52,750, with a median of £46,750, on Robert Half’s national figures for a permanent marketing manager.
In London, Robert Half puts the median at £63,500.
Ashdown Group’s national median is £56,950, and job ads tracked by IT Jobs Watch give a median of £57,500.
Sector, region and company size move the number.
Base is only part of the cost: employer’s National Insurance and pension sit on top.

01/ the role
What a marketing manager does, and what sets the pay
A marketing manager turns a plan into campaigns that ship.
The National Careers Service’s marketing manager profile lists the core of the job: creating marketing and social media strategies, launching new products and services, approving campaign content, budgets and targets, working with agencies and reporting on how well campaigns worked.
Experience sets the pay first.
Robert Half describes the bottom of its £37,500–£52,750 range as a candidate with little or no prior experience in the position, and the top as one with above-average experience.
Ashdown Group puts a senior marketing manager’s national median at £61,330, against £56,950 for a marketing manager.
Company size comes next.
In London, Robert Walters puts a marketing manager in a medium enterprise (50 to 250 staff) at £46,000–£67,000, and in a large enterprise (250+ staff) at £57,000–£82,000.
Then sector.
Morgan McKinley’s 2026 guide puts a London marketing manager in financial services at £55,000–£90,000 across its experience bands, in investment management at £60,000–£95,000, and in commerce and industry at £45,000–£68,000.
02/ scope
How to set the pay when you hire a marketing manager
1. Check the seat is a manager’s
A marketing manager runs a plan someone else sets.
If nobody owns the positioning, the budget or the plan, the seat is a leader’s, and the pay is too: see head of marketing salary and marketing director salary.
2. Choose the route
A permanent appointment suits a business with a full week of marketing to run.
If the work fills part of the week, hire a fractional marketing manager on agreed days.
If the seat is empty and needs cover now, see interim marketing manager salary for the day rates.
3. Benchmark by place and sector
A London financial services role and a regional commerce and industry role carry the same title and different pay.
Read the band for your region and sector in the table below, not the national median alone.
For the wider picture, the ONS bulletin Employee earnings in the UK: 2025 sets out earnings by occupation, industry and location.
4. Check standing as well as tools
Chartered Marketer status from the Chartered Institute of Marketing asks for graded CIM membership, two consecutive years of CPD and an online assessment.
It is one signal of professional standing.
Campaigns run and results reported matter more.
So does knowing the rules: ads must follow the CAP Code, and email and text campaigns the ICO’s rules on direct marketing and electronic communications.
What we do on a marketing brief
We recruit permanent, fractional, interim, part-time and temporary marketers, and non-executive directors.
We send a shortlist of 3–5, each with pay or day rate, availability and IR35 position set out, and every candidate goes through our five-stage vetting first.
03/ the route
Fractional, interim or permanent?
Four taps. The answer names the route for the seat and the page that covers it.
The route · Fractional
A fractional marketing manager. The work fills part of the week, so buy the days it needs.
A fractional marketing manager holds the seat on agreed days for as long as the seat is needed, and works for other clients on the rest.
The route · Interim
An interim marketing manager. The work fills the week, and it has an end: a programme, a cover, a transaction.
An interim marketing manager takes the seat full time for that stretch and hands it over when it is done.
The route · Interim, then permanent
Interim now, a permanent marketing manager after. The seat is full time and long term, and the need is now.
An interim marketing manager holds it while the permanent search runs, so the seat is not left empty.
The route · Permanent
A permanent marketing manager.A full-time seat that sits at the table for years is a permanent hire.
There is time to run a search, so run one.

Marketing manager salary by source, region and sector
Permanent marketing manager pay as each publisher states it, all 2025–26. Robert Half publishes starting salary projections (base); Ashdown Group publishes a range and median by region; Robert Walters and IT Jobs Watch work from advertised roles; Morgan McKinley publishes bands by sector and years of experience; the ONS figure is from its survey of employee earnings. Robert Half, Robert Walters, Ashdown Group and Morgan McKinley are recruiters.
05/ economics
What the salary costs the business, beyond the base
A salary is not the whole cost of an employee.
For 2026 to 2027, employer’s National Insurance is 15% on earnings above £5,000 a year (HMRC rates and thresholds).
Under automatic enrolment, the employer must pay at least 3% into a workplace pension, in most schemes on earnings between £6,240 and £50,270 a year (GOV.UK).
On Robert Half’s £46,750 median, that is £6,262.50 of National Insurance and at least £1,215.30 of pension, so about £54,228 a year before any bonus or benefits (our arithmetic).
A bonus is pay too.
HMRC treats a cash bonus as earnings, with PAYE tax and Class 1 National Insurance deducted through payroll, so budget employer’s National Insurance on it as well.

07/ marketing manager salary uk
Marketing manager salary UK: the national figures side by side
The national figures measure different things.
Robert Half’s marketing manager salary UK range, £37,500–£52,750 with a median of £46,750, is a starting-salary projection built from its own placements and checked against third-party vacancy data.
Ashdown Group’s median, £56,950, comes from its own salary guide.
Job ads give a third view.
IT Jobs Watch puts the median advertised marketing manager salary at £57,500, from 397 salaries in the six months to 5 October 2026, with the middle half between £46,250 and £70,000.
Outside London the median is £55,000.
Its sample is drawn from IT job ads.
For an official view, the ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings puts full-time marketing and commercial managers (SOC 2020 2432) at a median of £53,703 in 2025.
The group also holds commercial managers, so read it as the occupation as a whole rather than this title.
08/ marketing manager salary london
Marketing manager salary London, and the regions
The marketing manager salary London employers pay sits well above the national figures.
Robert Half puts it at £51,000–£71,750, with a median of £63,500.
Ashdown Group’s London median is £65,000, within £55,000–£75,000, and IT Jobs Watch’s median from London job ads is also £65,000.
Robert Walters prints two London tables.
Its marketing-team table puts a marketing manager at £46,000–£67,000 in a medium enterprise and £57,000–£82,000 in a large one.
Its business-support table, under HR and marketing, gives £40,000–£55,000 and £50,000–£65,000 for the same two sizes.
Outside London, Ashdown Group publishes a median for each region: the South East £60,185, the East £58,036, Scotland £57,018, the South West £56,034, the West and East Midlands £56,522 each, Yorkshire and the North West £54,622 each, the North East £54,167 and Wales £53,719.
Morgan McKinley puts a Surrey commerce and industry role at £38,000–£60,000.
09/ average marketing manager salary
Average marketing manager salary: which figure to use
Ask for an average marketing manager salary and each source answers differently.
Robert Walters’ averages are means of advertised London roles: £57,700 in a medium enterprise and £69,600 in a large one.
The ONS mean for marketing and commercial managers is £61,810, above its £53,703 median, because a few high salaries pull a mean up.
For a budget, a median is the safer starting point: Robert Half’s £46,750 nationally and £63,500 in London, or Ashdown Group’s £56,950 nationally.
Then move up or down for region, sector and the experience the seat needs.

A permanent salary buys a marketing manager every day, with notice on both sides.
A contract or interim manager is paid by the day for full-time cover over a fixed period; see interim marketing manager salary for the day rates.
A fractional manager works agreed days a week.
No source we trust publishes a fractional marketing manager day rate, so we do not quote one; fractional marketing manager salary spreads this salary across part-week days instead (our arithmetic, not a market rate).
See fractional marketing manager jobs for how that seat is scoped.
